about

The show documented herein was recorded at the Garage (London) during the final days of our 9-week, 1994 European tour. The road we had followed to London was both neon and blurry (as all roads are), and it literally had taken us all the way to Hell and back (Hell being the actual name of a sleepy town in Norway). It was a road littered with both strangeness and kindness (as all roads are) and some of the more memorable stops included: Athens (big crowds and big hearts), Ljubljana (a nightmare show in an ancient amphitheatre) and Nevers, France (where a Neil Young look-alike named "Cortez" grabbed my guitar so that he could do the final solo on "Hurricane").

Throughout the tour we billed the show as "An Evening With The Walkabouts," and each night we played two very contradictory sets. The opening set was made up of semi-acoustic renditions of songs from our folk album "Satisfied Mind." It started out slow and ended even slower. The headlining set was electric and much more ragged. It was the sound of the five of us trying to prove that we were actually a rock band, and that what had come earlier in the evening had only been a disguise. Some nights it even worked. In this collection of songs you will find parts of both of these sets.

Finally, nothing found herein would have been possible without the efforts of Cheryl at K7, Ruud Berends at Paperclip, Rembert Stiewe at Sub Pop Europe and our friend/tour manager/sound person Luc Wouters. Ultimately however, this document is dedicated to those of you who came to the shows. We will be forever impressed with your generosity and participation.

about

The Walkabouts Seattle, Washington

Never a standard rock band, The Walkabouts defy genres as they seamlessly fuse rock, country and folk to reveal a rich and expansive sound. Channeling Neil Young and Nick Cave, to name a couple influences, the band took their inspiration and churned out original and evocative outsider epics.

Their last studio album to date, Travels in the Dustland saw the band reaching new creative heights.
